Earth Advantage Introduces Greener Standards - Gold and Platinum Home Certifications
August 14, 2003
For years - Earth Advantage has certified homes built for higher energy efficiency and less impact on the environment. Now - the Northwest’s premier green building program has added additional levels of certification for homes - keeping pace with demand from home buyers and builders seeking even higher performance. “Earth Advantage builders who substantially exceed our base program criteria deserve premium recognition -” said Jay Coalson - Earth Advantage general manager. “The new certifications demonstrate that they produce a home at the top tier of high performance - environmental responsibility and value for the homebuyer.” While Earth Advantage continues to offer its basic program - including third-party testing and certification for homes constructed with greener methods and materials - homes built to elevated criteria within the program are eligible for four new types of certification: - Earth Advantage Gold - Healthier Indoor Air - for homes that incorporate additional products and systems shown to dramatically reduce or avoid pollution sources - ventilate the home and filter the air.
- Earth Advantage Gold - Energy Efficiency - for homes that incorporate a variety of measures designed to help them perform at least 40% better than a house built to Oregon code requirements.
- Earth Advantage Gold - Environmental and Water Efficiency - for homes that incorporate required measures designed to reduce a new home’s impact on the planet and its resources.
- Earth Advantage Platinum - for homes that meet both basic and Gold requirements in the areas of energy efficiency - healthier indoor air and environmental responsibility - and then go beyond. Earth Advantage Platinum certification requires home builders to adhere to an extensive - prescribed set of measures that significantly increase a home’s performance and comfort while limiting its impact on the environment.
